Achievements of Legal Aid

Legal Aid Project
The following work has been done under the Legal Aid Project. So far, assistance has been provided to the helpless, poor and oppressed in a significant number of cases. After the news about the Hilla marriage in Dashtika village of Bogra was published in newspapers and magazines, a two-member on-site investigation team was sent and legal steps were taken to resolve the matter based on specific information. Legal aid has been provided in cases of violence against women and children, false cases, and harassment. In the court of law, our Arjan Center has filed an appeal case in the Supreme Court against the verdict given by a division bench of the High Court Division regarding the provision of maintenance to divorced women that is against the Quran and Sunnah and has obtained an order to cancel the verdict of the High Court Division. The same bench has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the verdict containing recommendations to the government to formulate a single civil code for all, regardless of Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or Christian. The organization has taken appropriate part in the appeal case pending in the Supreme Court against the verdict given by the same bench declaring ‘Issuing fatwas in Islam prohibited’.
In addition, a new project called Family Aid has been taken up in 2023 under the organization’s Legal Aid project. In 2023, 3 webinars were held to create social awareness about the rights and duties of all family members, including awareness of women and children’s rights, and counseling assistance was provided to 200 troubled families, Sharia advice was provided to 100 families, and 30 social problems were resolved. Efforts are underway to further expand the work of the Family Aid project.
Some of those who have received legal aid under the Legal Aid project have so far provided assistance to the helpless, poor, and oppressed in a significant number of cases.
